Something for everyone

As a young sport VX is always in need of people to get involved and help it grow.  Every single person in the sport is a volunteer and is proud of their part in helping the development and growth of the phenomenon that is VX.

VX is in a position to offer opportunities that aren't available in more mainstream and more established sports.  Not least is the opportunity to make history - as a young sport history is being made all the time with new competitions, new standards, new 'firsts' ...

So many opportunities at so many level?

What have you got?

Playing

Do you fancy competing internationally, representing your country? Or do you just want to play recreationally?  VX has some very sporty people - it also has many players who do no other sport whatsoever - and a large number of them have enjoyed opportunities to compete at a high level.  Some players have competed internationally in both team and singles disciplines.  Players from England have travelled to India, to Bilbao, to Italy ...  There a local clubs and leagues and there is international competition.  We have had our first Test Match Series, a two-yearly European Championship, a four-yearly VX World Cup and an annual V2 World Championships.  England has a strong international programme and other countries are starting to follow suit.

We have players who claim to have no hand-eye co-ordination.  We have players with physical and cognitive impairments.  We have players who considered themselves not very sporty.

As the sport grows the players are themselves developing new techniques.  The standards at the top level get higher and higher and the skills of the top few players are jaw-dropping!

Coaching

Do you fancy coaching internationally?  Do you fancy coaching at club level?  Do you want to get another coaching qualification?

At the moment, most of our club coaches have been (or still are) players.  We have Level 1 and Level 2 coaching courses.  Level 3 is almost ready.  Levels 4 and 5 (National and International) are, at the moment, based on experience, hours and Approved Prior Learning.

VX is a sport that is very proud to give opportunities to young people.  As an example the England squad has just undergone a radical change in its coaching staff - after the last World Cup the head coach retired, moved up to become Team Manager and handed over the reins to three young men in their early 30s, all of whom had come through as players and who had been involved in the sport since their teens.  We are also delighted to see the opportunities in coaching being offered in other countries - for example the Head Coach of Uganda, Didus Businghe, has visited the UK on several occasions as a guest and has attended England squad sessions.

Officiating

At the moment officiating is undertaken by the most experienced coaches and players however the first Officiating Course is almost ready to go.   It is an aim of VX to have teams of dedicated officials.

Volunteering

Everybody in VX is a volunteer, at every level.  We are always keen to welcome more volunteers  - VX needs new clubs.  Clubs need committees, fund-raisers, administrators.  Do you have any skills you can offer?  are you a photographer? a film maker?  are you skilled at social media, marketing, writing press releases?

Administration

The National Governing Bodies always need help.  Here is an opportunity to help administer a sport at the highest level and shape that sport in your country.  An NGB needs to manage the leagues, clubs, regions and memberships of a country.  If you are not able to help at this level, why not look at helping establish a regional association?
